Our heroine of the month is Paola, a super strong fighter who’s 12 years old. After years of fighting, she won her battle against Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Congratulations!
Paola told us her story so you can all hear it too. She also wanted us to know how thankful she is for all the people who were with her for the whole process:
“It all started when I was in 5th grade. My stomach hurt, I couldn’t stop coughing when I laid down and I was really tired. They took me to the emergency room and that’s when they saw I had a mass. They put a tube in me and like 10 people had to come help because I was so scared. At first, it was hard to find what was really wrong with me. They did three biopsies and for the last one I had to spend six days in the ICU. They were some of the worst days of my life because I could see hardly anyone, just my parents.
I was in the hospital for almost a month and finally they found a Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I got chemotherapy and radiotherapy, so I had to stop going to school and had a teacher at home. When I went to the hospital, I had a really good time and at home I started making videos for YouTube. My mom says that was the best treatment for me.
Now, I’ve finished treatment and I just have to go to check-up screenings. At first, it was hard to go back to school because in my old life everything had changed. Little by little, after almost two years, I’m back to being me from before, and I discovered that I’m really brave, just like other kids who are in my situation.
Finally, I want to say thanks to Aladina, to the nurses and doctors at the Hospital San Rafael and Quirónsalud, but most of all I want to say thank you to my dad and mom, my family, and my friends, who have always supported me.”
You’re amazing and we’re so proud of you!
We’re sending you a big hug and a kiss from our whole team.
