Teo Silvestre

“We have a hero at home, Teo. A week before his 2nd birthday, he was diagnosed with high-risk leukemia. We spent that birthday in the ICU, but since then, we haven’t stopped celebrating every battle won, no matter how small. The beginning was tough, there were complications, and Teo barely smiled. But when he started feeling better, after two and a half months in the hospital, everything changed, and he regained the desire to play and laugh. A few days ago, we celebrated his third birthday with a very special gift because the day before, he finished his last round of chemo and is now starting maintenance. We are thrilled and happy! It has been an intense year; overnight, his life changed from daycare to the hospital, but he’s a champion who has handled the chemo and the continuous hospital stays quite well. And his smile has given us a lot of strength. He’s not yet aware of everything he has accomplished, but we’ll always be there to remind him. We also have a heroine at home, Sara, the best big sister Teo could have, and for us, another reason to fight and smile. Along the way, we have met many wonderful people: assistants, cleaning staff, orderlies, volunteers, nurses, psychologists, doctors… To all of you, thank you so much, because going to the hospital and feeling almost at home has made everything much easier for us.” – María, Teo’s mom
