Therapy and treatment of mucositis in cancer patients
Since 2019, Marcos Soto, a dentist with a master’s degree in Laser and Pathology and more than 30 years of experience in the field, joined the Foundation’s hospital team to offer children with cancer a unique treatment against mucositis, a fairly common adverse oral affect of chemotherapy, radiation, and other cancer treatments.
We are the first organization in Spain to bring treatment for mucositis to children with cancer.
It is available to children being treated in the Hospital Universitario Niño Jesús, Hospital Gregorio Marañón, Hospital de La Paz, and Hospital 12 de Octubre— The treatment is applied using a low-intensity laser to control both symptoms and underlying causes and the results have been very positive.
Marcos Soto also participates, on behalf of Aladina, in a multicentric study of this ailment led by the Hospital Niño Jesús in Madrid and in collaboration with La Paz and Gregorio Marañón.
This is the first scientific study of its kind in Spain on oral mucositis.
