The Fundación Mapfre has recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Fundación Aladina by which 30,000 euros will be donated to the “Psychological care for children with cancer and for families, and play therapy in hospitals” program.
Fundación Mapfre’s contribution will allow Aladina to continue taking psychological care of children with cancer – as well as their families – treated in the Hospital Niño Jesús and in the Hospital Gregorio Marañón, both in the Comunidad de Madrid.Aladina’s aim is to ensure the kids’ wellbeing, given the deep crisis that child cancer generates. Since hospitalizations are long and humdrum, it is essential to keep the kids’ mood up and strong. The foundation provides individual psychological care to all minors admitted in both hospitals thanks to their psycho-oncologists’ work, with the possibility of extending this support to families that may require it. Fundación Mapfre’s donation will also help to maintain the play therapies that Aladina offers, which are provided by volunteers, but coordinated by the foundation’s staff.
The kids and teenagers make different workshops that cheer heir afternoons up and enable them to keep learning despite being hospitalized. They can learn how to create their own blog, photography, T-shirt painting, bracelet or Christmas decorations making, among many other things. The director of the Fundación Mapfre’s Área de Acción Social (Social Action Area) – Fernando Garrido – and Fundación Aladina’s director – Ishtar Espejo – signed the agreement last April 6th in Madrid.Founded in 1975, the Fundación Mapfre collaborates with a great number of public and private, national and international institutions, NGOs, museum, foundations and associations with similar objectives. As for Aladina, this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary as a consolidated reference entity in the care for children with cancer and their families.
