David and Victoria, the parents of our little superhero Eric, wrote us a very moving letter in light of the holidays. We want to share their wishes for all the parents that are going through or have gone through the same thing as them:
“Hello, everyone. First of all, I want to send all my support to all those families that are going through that really difficult time that my family has also been through, thank God with success in our case. Some of you will find comfort in your faith, others in your family, maybe your friends, or maybe your partner. Whatever you choose, it’s a good thing as long as it helps you avoid making the mistake of feeling guilty.
Don’t do that, as it not only is it unhelpful but it will also drive you crazy and break you down. They need us more than ever and it’s time to give them your all, through games, movies, laughter, or just spending time with them, even if it’s doing homework.
That’s why this year and all the years to come, I wish you all happiness, smiles, amazing moments that leave you with happy memories, and, most of all, that nobody suffers too much, that we all stay hopeful and between all of us support each other to move forward.
Something that had helped me in a way was self-deception. Even though I knew the harsh reality, my mind only thought about how it was all a lie, and that time had stopped to show my son how much we loved him, and that everything would go back to being normal. When I saw him smile, this feeling that helped me trick myself grew stronger and helped me stay strong to keep going.
Today, my son is a healthy boy with a normal life. That’s why I’m sending you all of my support and strength, and I hope that soon, very soon, you’ll go back to being happy.
David and Victoria
