Our president, Paco Arango, spoke at the Conference for the Foundation for What Really Matters in Palma de Mallorca. He explained how he started volunteering at the Hospital Niño Jesús in Madrid, and after four years, he decided to create the Fundación Aladina to help children and teens with cancer. His emotional story truly moved the audience.
“A child with cancer needs a friend. We managed to convert the hospital into a fun and pleasant place”, said Paco.
Paco started volunteering in 2001. Soon, he realized that the children and teens needed something that they weren’t getting – the chance to have fun. “Each room was a closed world, especially the teens’. So we started to break the mold”, he explained.
That’s how Aladina was born. Shortly afterwards, volunteers started to arrive full of energy to cheer up our little fighters. Today, it’s been 10 years since the Fundación Aladina was created, and we keep on growing. We’re currently working at 7 different hospitals, our volunteers pass out smiles at 4 Madrid hospitals, and hundreds of children have enjoyed the magic of Barretstown in Ireland, among many other projects.
