Mediterranean Diet in Pediatric Cancer
Aladina is promoting the first international study on the impact of the Mediterranean diet on the side effects of cancer treatments and the survival of pediatric cancer patients. EpicKids aims to develop informative guides based on objective data and critical nutritional parameters to help medical teams describe the nutritional status trajectory among children and adolescents in Southern Europe with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and certain types of brain tumors.
The study involves research institutions such as the Irving Medical Institute at Columbia University and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO). The hospitals participating include Niño Jesús and La Paz in Madrid, Sant Joan de Déu and Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, Virgen del Rocío in Seville, the Italian Fondazione Monza e Brianza and Fondazione IRCCS, as well as Aghia Sofia Hospital in Athens.

European Prospective Study on Diet, Cancer, and Health
EPICKids is a groundbreaking international collaborative effort in the field of pediatric oncology. This study follows the Epic Report, which involved 12 European countries and examines over half a million people, studying dietary patterns, various biochemical parameters, and survival.
The results of the comparison of dietary consumption among the 23 European centers were published in 2002 and showed a protective effect of fiber, fruits, and vegetables consumption against colorectal cancer, a protective effect of fruit consumption against lung cancer, and of fruits and vegetables against upper digestive tract cancer, while it was confirmed that high consumption of fruits and vegetables has no effect on prostate cancer.
Our commitment to research is absolute; that is why this study is 100% funded by Aladina
