We have made a donation of $160,000 to the Armenian City of Smile Foundation, the organisation that funds the diagnosis, treatment and psychosocial support of Armenian children and adolescents sufferingfrom cancer up to the age of 25 and promotes oncological and haematological research in the country.
This donation will be used in its entirety to cover the treatment costs of between 90 and 100 children and adolescents without resources who suffer from cancer or haematological diseases for a period of two months. The number equivalent to the new annual diagnoses of pediatric cancer in the country.
About 100 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed in Armenia each year. Forty per cent of them are registered in Yerevan (the capital) and the remaining 60 per cent in peripheral regions, where the socio-economic situation of the population is very precarious and access to doctors, hospitals and treatment options is further complicated. Currently in Armenia, the health system can only cover a small part of the cost of cancer treatment, with around 70% of the total cost borne by the patient’s family, in a country where more than 30% of the population lives below the poverty line.
At Aladina we are committed to collaborating with international organisations dedicated to the protection of children’s cancer patients in areas in serious emergency situations. Little by little we are going further and further!
