Together with Fundació Albert Bosch and Fundación Small, and with a total investment of €7.4 million, we celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Pediatric and Adolescent Hematology-Oncology Unit at Hospital Universitario Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, the leading pediatric oncology referral hospital for children in Catalonia.
A Space Twice the Size of the Previous Unit, Designed Around Patients
The new unit spans more than 2,646m², doubling the size of the previous facility. It was designed from the ground up through a collaborative process involving patients, families, and healthcare professionals. The result is an environment unlike the traditional hospital setting most people imagine: private rooms filled with natural light, warm materials throughout, and a 240m² terrace where patients can enjoy fresh air whenever their condition allows.
What Has Been Renovated?
The patient rooms feature soft, warm-toned materials and large glass surfaces to maximize natural light. Color-changing ceiling lights with cloud and airplane designs create a calming atmosphere, while wall decorations inspired by Japan in the adolescent rooms and China in the pediatric rooms bring a sense of imagination and adventure to the space.

Aladina’s First Major Project in Catalonia
This project is especially meaningful for Aladina. It’s our first major initiative in Catalonia, and we couldn’t be prouder to have partnered with two organizations as committed as Fundación Small and Fundació Albert Bosch.
But this is only the beginning. We also work at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, where we have transformed pediatric oncology areas — including hallways, patient rooms, and play spaces — into warmer, more welcoming environments designed with children and their families in mind.
At Hospital Universitario Vall d’Hebron itself, our work goes far beyond the new facilities. Through our therapy dog program, we bring companionship and joy directly to patients. We also provide a dedicated psycho-oncology team that supports children, adolescents, and families throughout their cancer journey. We also invest in the future of pediatric medicine through our scholarship program, which supports physicians and other healthcare professionals pursuing specialized training in pediatric oncology.
A Collective Effort That Made This Possible
This project is the result of many years of dedication and hard work. But the true protagonists are Aladina’s warriors and their families. Everything we do is for them. We firmly believe that a welcoming, bright, and thoughtfully designed environment can make a meaningful difference in their care and well-being.
